The Jura has been the scene of important climbs on several occasions in the history of climbing. In 1986, for example, Antoine Le Menestrel opened “Ravage” (8b+/c) on the Chuenisberg near Basel, the most difficult route in the world at the time. Seven years later, Fred Nicole doubled the stakes with “Bain de sang” (9a) in St-Loup. After the initial euphoria, the walls of the Jura have calmed down. The scene of high-level climbers has shifted. The magnificent cliffs and fairytale forests remain. In addition to some extreme classics, the guide offers, particularly for “normal” climbers, a multitude of perfectly assured routes from 6a to 8a in perfect Jura limestone.
